Mediocre to fairly good western. What I liked about this movie was the story. It is not difficult in itself to find such a storyline, but it was fascinating to follow. There weren't too many characters introduced either, so it was easy to follow the movie. I also liked the atmosphere (which is typical of those old westerns), mainly due to the saloon with the presence of numerous performances (with a nice role for Ann Dvorak). There is also not much to criticize about Randolph Scott's performance, he plays with a lot of conviction.

Why do I only give 3*, despite these praising words?
What disappointed me most were the acting scenes, which were really dated. Furthermore, I thought that the "cowboys" (i.e. the drovers) gave up quite easily at the end. I thought there was more to do with the ending scene...

But all in all, definitely fun to see.

Great western. A nice atmosphere, a nice pace and good performances. This movie has it all. Only the songs that Ann Dvorak sang were completely unnecessary to me. Randolph Scott is excellent as always in his role as Marshall. I'm a fan of these types of B-westerns. Always very entertaining. 3*

Based on the novel "Trail Town" by Ernest Haycox. He wrote, among other things, the short story "Stage to Lordsburg", which was made into a film in 1939 as the classic Stagecoach. Paul Brinegar, Chubby Johnson and Helen Boyce made their acting debuts with this film. The latter was a one-time vaudeville entertainer, and owner of the "Coconut Grove" nightclub in Santa Monica.

A reasonable western with some gunfights, a love story and music. This with a young Lloyd Bridges as Henry Dreiser. Not the standard classic western I like to see, but quite entertaining.

2.5 *
