A controversial film about sexuality directed by Catherine Breillat.

In South Korea, this film was banned for the explicit sex scenes. Despite the fact that actor Libero De Rienzo used a penile prosthesis. Especially the rape scene caused some unrest. Furthermore, the story consists largely of dialogues, and the cast is nicely composed.

The film won 4 international awards within 2 years, and was nominated 3 times.

A film about 2 teenage sisters on holiday somewhere in the South of France. Dreaming wildly about a sweetheart and maybe even a first sexual encounter. Two sisters who don't look much alike, literally where one can have any boy she wants and the other is labeled the fat ugly duckling. Although the friendship and love between the two is present, there is certainly also jealousy. The latter becomes more and more important when a boy shows up who takes away the attention and bond between the sisters.

Anaïs also appears to be less romantic when it comes to deflowering and in that respect the strange closing sentence of the film should also be seen. It's from some kind of inferiority complex that she denies the rape to show the outside world that she was also found attractive (by mutual consent). The latter, by the way, came to the fore during the act when she removed her gag ...

By the way, that whole ending was bizarre and above all highly surprising and abrupt. Raw and grim, not fitting in the whole and atmosphere of the film, but perhaps in the jungle of life. This is one of the reasons why this film still sticks.

Given my previous experiences with Catherine Breillat films, I started this film quite skeptically. Rightly so, as it turned out later. It is a slow story – interspersed with some sensual pictures – about two sisters who are opposites in every way. What should pass for serious dialogue is rather gossip. And the brutal ending is too crazy for words.
