Alien degli Abissi plot

"Loads of gore and action, plenty of bloody shoot-outs, a hugely entertaining monster (the infamous “Big Claw”)."

Environmental activist Jane and her cameraman investigate the business of the E-Chem factory on a tropical island. They discover that the factory is dumping radioactive waste into an active volcano. However, the factory catches the eye of the detective duo and sends a number of mercenaries towards them. The situation becomes even more dire when an alien, drawn to the radioactive waste, appears on the scene and murders his way into the factory.

Starts a bit weak, but once the monster shows up, this Alien rip-off is quite entertaining. Story and acting are not exactly strong (you wouldn't expect anything else with Carpi as screenwriter), but Margheriti is skilled enough to entertain the viewer. As with almost every film Antonio made in the 1980s, charming miniatures are eagerly used for the action sequences. Best of all is the terribly bad excuse used to let Marina Giulia Cavalli walk around in a wet shirt in the last few minutes.

Disappointing horror film where the tension and action wait very late. The alien is not really convincing and looks more like an immense robotic creature with crab claws. 4/10

Watched this today on a nice blu-ray edition bought through Amazon.

A cameraman and his wife are caught investigating and filming a chemical plant, but then they are caught and we see a sort of chase with the officers as the wife flees into the woods.

So the first hour we mostly see the factory and the chase, only in the last half hour do we see some kind of Alien appear (a kind of scissors of an Alien) that causes danger and later we see even more Aliens culminating in a very large one in full regalia.

They then have to try to defeat these.

I thought it was a bit of an old-fashioned film, but it is entertaining, because quite a few things happen.

There are also some long, boring stretches, but all in all quite doable.
