An American woman (Joan Allen) is trapped in a loveless, suffocating marriage to politician Anthony (Sam Neill). She begins an affair with a Middle Eastern man (Simon Abkarian), a Lebanese surgeon exiled to London. Their passion is the start of a personal journey in which love and religious beliefs fight for superiority.
