"Three visionary directors. One erotic journey."
"Eros" consists of three segments in which love and sex are central. "Il Filo pericoloso Delle Cose" (by Michelangelo Antonioni) portrays the life of one of a divorced couple. "Equilibrium" (by Steven Soderbergh) tells the story of a 1950s salesman who is "ravaged" by erotic dreams with an unknown woman. "La Mano" (by Wong Kar Wai) tells the story of a young tailor who never saw his love for a girl of good descent reciprocated.

So in the end, I found a good version after all.
Antonioni's piece remains bewilderingly bad. I had to laugh out loud again at that ridiculous zoom on the painting; apparently, that was still there after the rework. It is a terribly ugly, flat, and boorish piece of cinema that has absolutely no place in this more than decent omnibus. Fortunately, Soderbergh and Kar-Wai are there to save the day. For the Antonioni piece, at least, a well-deserved 0.5*.
Soderbergh's piece is particularly lighthearted and frivolous. Beautiful black-and-white photography that contrasts sharply with the blue sections, a fairly unique story, Downey does a good job but I especially loved the spying psychologist. It easily deserves 4.0*.
Kar-Wai comes up with the best short. It is indeed a continuation of In The Mood For Love and 2046; it can't quite match either film (which were definitely a bit better), but the atmosphere, the palpable tension, and the beautiful cinematography create that old-school Kar-Wai feeling once again. Quite a nice story too—Chen Chang and I are big fans of his anyway—and Gong Li gets to shine one more time. A solid 4.0*
The overall picture gets a 3.5*, mainly because Antonioni's short comes first and once past that, there isn't a cloud in the sky. It is bitter that the whole project was started by him, but oh well...

Ouch, what a weak swan song from Antonioni. At times, it reminded me of those mediocre soft-erotic series that used to air on commercial channels in the late hours. Anyone seeing this for the first time by Antonioni is bound to wonder where Antonioni's status actually comes from. I found it more painful than stimulating.
Soderbergh is done quite nicely and reasonably stylishly, but above all it is a rather forced and somewhat weak idea that he only manages to keep interesting for half an hour with some difficulty.
By far the best is Wong Kar-Wai with a beautiful little film, which fits seamlessly into his oeuvre.
Overall a 2.5*

I found Kar Wai's part perhaps the most interesting; it evokes the most atmosphere and is the most intriguing. I found Soderbergh's part rather bland and not exactly erotic. I couldn't really connect with it. I found Antonioni to be the most erotically charged, a sort of holiday atmosphere with the accompanying holiday romance. I am actually curious about another film by Kar Wai, as I have never seen anything by him. In any case, three less-explored directors among the films I have seen.
