“It can happen,” wrote Brederoo four centuries ago. I thought of that phrase when reviewing this film, because Elizabeth Taylor received an Oscar for one of her weakest films at the time, while in my opinion she had been in the years before. has played roles that were much more Oscar-worthy (A Place in the Sun; Cat on a Hot Tin Roof; Suddenly, Last Summer).

Well understand, I don't think there is much wrong with Taylor's role in this film. But the film as a whole is hardly worth watching. The lukewarm story about a call girl who pretends to be a fashion model lacks any form of persuasion. In addition, Laurence Harvey constantly walks as if he sees water burning. A waste of so much talent. Mediocre.

Taylor's first Oscar after brilliant roles in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Suddenly Last Summer. And of course the Oscar goes to an actress for the wrong film. What a scandal at the time because it seemed to be out of sympathy after she was ill, rather than for her acting. Especially when you see that she was opposite Shirley MacLaine, who should have won the prize with The Apartment.

Taylor himself was never satisfied with this film and I can't blame them. Taylor isn't bad, but she isn't anything special either. The story is not very interesting and you have to struggle through the film.
