ASH World Wide Suicide plot

Most outsiders are dismissive of the internet newsgroup alt.suicide.holiday, or Ash for short, where (ex-)suicidal people post about reasons for committing suicide and ways in which it can be done. Sometimes someone does indeed commit suicide after visiting the newsgroup, but for many loyal visitors - or Ashers - the newsgroup is an important support to sustain life. Filmmaker Walter Stokman made an appeal, to which four Ashers responded. Stokman interviews them at home and in remote, peaceful locations and has them read parts of messages from the newsgroup. They talk about their suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts and the role of the controversial newsgroup; they especially praise the openness and acceptance by other visitors. By appearing in the documentary, they give a voice and face to the relatively anonymous internet community.
