So much effort, such good and interesting actors, such careful construction, and then the pay-off with glowing eyes, outstretched hands and CG buildings – it's almost as disappointing as M. Night Shyamalan's later films. The acting and the atmosphere of the first half keep the film going fairly well, but I drop out at that Close encounters of the third kind ending.

A Perfect World (Film, 1993) meets Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Film, 1977), or so it seems. To be honest, I just thought it was all mediocre. Not that the film completely misses the mark, but it didn't hit me enough to really catch on.

Atmospheric and at times exciting, but there are also too many loose dead moments in the film. However, the cast is still trying to straighten it out. Film seems unfinished and vague, also a bit too easy at times and I didn't like the ending. Just not...

Late last night on the BBC after that fantastic David Bowie concert he gave at Glastonbury in 2000. Curiously high rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A good example of how people who like (this kind of) SF are served properly and express their appreciation accordingly. It's a bit of a suspenseless story with people going through the motions, and at the end (which only Americans seem to have a patent on) "ooh and ah, there's more that meets the eye". Reminiscent of what made the in itself fine film The Abyss such a big letdown. Good acting, that justifies a meager 3*. Didn't pay for it.
