Sommersturm plot

Tobi had imagined summer camp with the rowing club differently. His best friend Achim is more interested in the eyes of the beautiful Sandra, while he himself tries to fend off the attempts of young Anke. When the competing rowing team shows up and promotes itself as "the gay paddle brigade", the confusion among the youth is complete.

apart from a few lesser points (for example the somewhat pathetic music at the key moments), a very successful, unsentimental coming-out film, usually filmed in a businesslike/not dramatic way; refreshing approach, generally a good tone.. The film is one of the good films in the genre for me; if you compare this with, for example, beautiful thing, the latter turns out to be so much smoother.

Anke loves Tobi, Achim loves Sandra.... Tobi loves Achim

Don't think it's that exciting. Bit of a cliché gay stuff throughout the film, about a boy who doesn't dare to express himself. I also thought the film made some strange choices, especially by involving that gay rowing group Querschlag or jerking it off together to show how good friends Tobi and Achim are. This feels painfully forced. The feelings with the two girls were even more interesting, but this didn't go very deep either. I was a little unmoved by it. For the better gay film you should go to Brokeback Mountain (4*).

Charming German coming-of-age film about a rowing camp in the summer. Tobi is secretly in love with his best friend Achim, but Achim only has eyes for Sandra. I could feel Tobi's despair. But whether you're gay or straight, if the love isn't reciprocated, it's over, because you can't force love. Leo, on the other hand, likes Tobi and eventually helps him come to terms with himself. There are some clichéd things incorporated in the film, but that gave the film something light-hearted and sometimes even comical. Cinematography is fun around the lake. The summer storm literally and figuratively causes a complete turnaround, a real feel-good movie!
