"The battle for eternity begins"
Set, the merciless God of darkness, has taken the throne of Egypt and has turned the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos. Few dare to take on him. A young thief, whose lover has been captured by him, tries to dethrone and defeat Set with the help of the god Horus. Horus, however, is no longer the mighty god he once was.

Proyas again.
Not really his best film visually, but Proyas has rarely managed to convince me with his special effects. His other films were saved by the better story, among other things, but there is actually little to see here.
Some scenes are fun to follow, and the film definitely has enough spectacle to keep you a little fascinated. Proyas stretches his playing time unnecessarily long to 127 minutes, while this could also have taken 105 minutes.
Great acting by Butler as the god, but not really a role he often plays now. No one really stands out in it, visually beautiful now and then but not always and a fairly fascinating playing time. I had fun, but not much more.

A bit long winded, but nice graphics. Love story not compelling. Good role for Butler as the villain. Other authors are unknown to me. Soundtrack song typical Egyptian. Weekday adventure film.

Hollywood and movies about gods never really mix. As if you are then obliged to use bad and ugly effects. Gods of Egypt is not so bad in comparison. It has become a light-hearted film with a cross between Aladdin and Indiana Jones with some fantasy characters. It always feels a bit clumsy and seems more like a teen movie. But it still entertains enough to enjoy it.
