Strange case, those Russians. Not that I know their cinema that well, but what I've seen is either very good or abominably bad. There is hardly anything in between. In any case, Nochnoy Dozor falls into the latter category for me. I can't think of a single positive point, except that there are also a bunch of movies that are clearly more annoying. Nochnoy Dozor is too chaotic experience. It is largely out of control and Bekmambetov gives me the idea that he is just doing something. Rarely seen such a rudderless story that floats around for so long. Only the first half hour was nothing more than nice. After that, I simply didn't feel like following it any further. Nevertheless, watched it. After all, you paid for it. What a pity that Day Watch is now also in possession. If you want to have that DVD, keep an eye on my trade/sale list.

Quentin Tarentino may say that this can be as big as The Lord Of The Rings, but I've rarely seen him speak louder. Nochnoy Dozor isn't even a tiny bit epic. Almost the entire movie is set in Moscow at night, making it visually like all the crappy action/crime movies shot in the same Eastern Bloc. The battle between good and evil (light and dark others and I know what) is hopelessly inspired by Underworld and some Hollywood blockbusters. The CGI usage was nothing to write home about either. Luckily they didn't have to use it much. Don't ask me what it was really about. In a few days I won't have the faintest idea and I'd rather poke out my own eyes than have to watch this bend again. For Dnevnoy dozor I will make a one time exception.

Russian junk.

Chaotic mess that never manages to captivate for even a single second. It rarely happens to me, but regularly had the urge to stop the film. Finally had to bite the bullet. Not a good sign of course.

Both story-wise (WHAT was this about?) and visually a dragon of a film.
