Le Magot de Josefa plot
Josefa is an Italian immigrant who owns a small grocery store. The people of her town are fairly indifferent to her, until it is rumored that she will inherit quite a fortune from an American mobster she had a relationship with. The mayor suddenly tries to make out with her and an unknown person poses as her long-lost son. Everyone in town treats her with respect because of the financial windfall hanging over her head. When it turns out that she doesn't get the money after all, no one sees her anymore, much to Josefa's frustration.
