And from the air to the water with a film of almost the same age, and that resulted in this Crash Dive. So bring it on, but unfortunately this film suffered from the same diseases as The War Lover, and it even got worse.

The opening certainly won't let you down, with the engaging Lieutenant Stewart, his transfer to the submarine service, and his meeting with Jean. Considering the time period, it seems tame, but fortunately, Tyrone Power gives the whole thing the necessary color. Naturally, the film then relies on the missions at sea, including an encounter with a German privateer, and the moments underwater and under attack are cleverly executed with a nice ruse to get rid of the attacker. Up until then, it all seems not too bad...

But then, just like in the previous film, a great deal of time is wasted on the romance, which adds absolutely nothing in terms of suspense, because the conclusion that both men are seeing the same woman takes far too long and only comes to light half an hour before the end. Subsequently, I sense little tension between the two on board, but the film is then completely undermined and ruined once again by the commander turning into a daredevil—which is bad enough—but to then set up a commando mission with his crew is complete nonsense. Those people aren't trained for this; a crucial crew member might get killed, and they never have that many weapons and explosives on board to do this. Total rubbish in that regard.

And that is once again a shame, just as in the case of The War Lover, where the focus flits in all directions, the whole thing ends in clichés, and to top it all off, comes up with something totally unbelievable. The end result is therefore a resounding fail as far as I am concerned.
