Nice and atmospheric snack, not the great classic that some see here, but certainly a pleasant film to catch.
For me personally, the story needed some time to get going, we saw enough of Fonda & Redford being super in love, but as far as I'm concerned, the upstairs neighbor could have had a bigger role. The scenes between him and the mother were the most fun for me personally!
The small apartment also provides a lot of atmosphere, but for me personally the relationship between Fonda & Redford was not the main reason why I found the film entertaining.

The best part for me is that the mother, upstairs neighbor and the couple go out for dinner and first have to cross the water and end up at an ordinary house at first glance. It's a shame that this scene wasn't a little longer because for me it was the best part of the movie.

Fine film without a doubt, but in my opinion the film could have paid a little more attention to the nice supporting roles.

3 very big stars that come close to a 3.5

This romantic comedy begins where most others leave off: at marriage. The illusion of the honeymoon is shattered. Housing problems bring them down to earth. During their first argument, a wall stands in the center of the image as a symbolic separation between the spouses.

Jane Fonda plays the young bride who is bursting with energy and optimism. Robert Redford plays someone who at first glance seems like the ideal son-in-law: a steady job, neatly dressed, hair in a parting, calm character. But that is exactly what his new wife accuses him of: being too well-behaved and predictable, a middle-class man, a stuffed shirt. The question is whether he dares to do something crazy.

Mildred Natwick and Charles Boyer play nice character roles: the mother-in-law who does not want to be meddlesome and the eccentric who is crazy about an oriental lifestyle. We only see the eyes of the downstairs neighbor , because she suffers from social anxiety and is only accompanied by her cats.

Neil Simon wrote the play, which should also be an experience in the stage version. The dialogues are witty. There is enough variety in the locations, with the stairs, the cramped apartment and the exotic elements. This is recommended for those who like good actors and refined humor.

Barefoot in the Park is a play by Neil Simon, also known from The Odd Couple. He knows how to write humor, the dialogues are quite fun. The film adaptation is also a glorified theater piece that mainly takes place in the couple's apartment. Jane Fonda provides the necessary playfulness, Robert Redford is slightly less so. Every now and then I miss the spice and you have to love theater to really enjoy it. But it's quite an enjoyable comedy.
