Gusha no Bindume plot

Teenage girl Luchino Fujisaki hasn't seen a classroom in months. Today she takes the elevator back to school. Luchino lives in a gigantic underground complex, consisting of hundreds of stacked floors, interconnected by a network of elevators. She passes one floor after another. Her fellow passengers consist of the wooden conductor, a taciturn, trendy young man, a nervous professor and a woman with a baby. The elevator makes an emergency stop on floor 99, where a sadistic guard gets in with his inmates, two extremely dangerous murderers and rapists. A sudden explosion blocks the elevator. The closed environment turns into a claustrophobic hell for the commuters. Luchino is forced to use her telepathic abilities. What she finds in the minds of her fellow passengers fills her with horror.

This remains great.

Great to join in the world of Yamaguchi. But it's especially amazing how he manages to make a very intriguing film with such a small budget.

The elevator really is a perfect setting. The characters that keep stepping in/out give you a great view of the world of Hellevator without having to take a single step outside the elevator. So it remains mainly mysterious, while you still get some direct reason to enjoy it.

Visually very strong, strong sound editing and just strong conceptually worked out. Don't get bored with this movie, even though 90% takes place in the same location.

4.5* and a detailed review

When I saw that elevator go up and down, I immediately thought of "Cube", with the difference that I found that film, especially visually, a lot better than this Japanese sf thriller, which was somewhat disappointing to me. That gory thing in that elevator with those two weirdos wasn't really necessary for me either. I thought it was all quite over the top. The idea in this film - the "world" condensed into a gigantic underground complex - was quite original, but I found the plot rather vague. Maybe give this movie a second chance. I actually liked the ending.

Brilliant!

11 years after the last message, it was about time to put this film in the spotlight. This is really great from start to finish. The whole mysterious vibe, the crazy characters, the visuals, and oh my, don't forget the sound design make for a rollercoaster ride that even Space Mountain would be jealous of. And here you don't even have to queue for three hours.

When the movie was over I wanted to check the beginning and before I knew it I was already halfway through the movie. Now I understand very well why 30% of the messages here are about the umpteenth revision of Onderhond. This really never gets boring. Incredibly clever considering 99% of the film takes place in 1 location: An elevator. Yamaguchi manages to keep it fresh all the time through visual plays (gears, color, camera angles), a wonderfully fractured soundtrack, and blissfully whacky characters.

And just when you feel comfortable, Yamaguchi throws in some new ingredients. You saw the ending a bit coming, but imo it was the only correct ending (apart from maybe when Luchino goes into the elevator as a prisoner, she also goes wild just like the previous prisoners and then boom roll credits) . Seen twice in one night and that wasn't the last time I'm guessing.
