"Before man walked the earth... it slept for centuries. It is evil. It is real. It is awakening."

A sinister secret has been kept hidden for years by an abandoned church in Los Angeles. Due to the death of a priest of a mysterious sect, another priest takes a look in the cellar of the church and discovers a vat of green liquid. The priest asks a group of people to investigate. Gradually it becomes clear what is in the barrel. It turns out that zombies are emerging from the green stuff and trying to free Satan. It is the task of the group to prevent this.

The new John Carpenter was fresh from the local video store at the time, to be honest I found it a bit disappointing at the time. This wasn't Halloween, The Fog or The Thing. A slower pace movie in which a professor and his students have to help the priest Donald Pleasence with some green stuff that is in an old abandoned church. And there was also a very annoying Asian student.

We can upgrade it in the review. The film is well put together. Certainly not a fast film, but a nice deviating horror story. Carpenter for the betas.

revised. Middle part of Carpenter's apocalypse trilogy. Slow and talkative, with an overly large cast consisting of barely fascinating characters, but the atmosphere setting and the slow build-up of the approaching disaster are perfectly fine. In addition, I found the subject very interesting and there are many visually memorable scenes, especially towards the end. And the moody synth music of Carpenter himself is of course great in all its simplicity.

Such an interesting film, grew up minutes from the church this was filmed at. It’s where the Pope used to stay when he came to Los Angeles, California.

This was really quite unnerving when it came out, as we saw it in the movie theater, and it had people gasping and leaving the theater. I knew I was in for a good time when that started happening.

I’ve loved this film ever since the 1st time watching, and I've raised my 3 kids on John Carpenter films, and I'm hoping to do the same for ALL OF my grandchildren as well.
