Iris plot
The film tells the story of British philosopher and writer Iris Murdoch. As a young professor at Oxford, she begins a relationship with Professor John Bayley. Bayley recounts how he met Iris 40 years ago, what their lives were like, and the devastating effects Alzheimer's had on her.

Quite a nice film, but as others here also report, it goes a bit wrong in switching back and forth between two time periods. That seems a bit forced, partly because what Iris experiences is constantly connected with an anecdote about her, or a statement from her. Didn't need the movie at all. Especially when the older couple is portrayed by such classy actors as Dench and Broadbent. The film could easily have thrived on those two, in fact, the film would have gotten better.

Interesting biography of British writer Iris Murdoch. A film that stands out above all with the excellent acting by the quartet Dench, Winslet, Broadbent and Bonneville, in which the female cast has just that edge.
The film does indeed switch from present to past. Not much wrong with that, especially if the editing is up to standard in that area, but the biggest shortcoming is that you miss the impact of Alzheimer's disease in Iris. At times, the film struck the right chords and gave you an insight into this scary disease. At that point, when you're really in the movie and empathizing with the characters, the movie went into a flashback. Too bad…
