After rewatching Fast Times that same evening, it was time for me to watch The Wild Life again.

The Wild Life is an entertaining watch, partly thanks to Chris Penn. It's not a film that comes close to Fast Times, but at the same time it's not boring at all.

Ilan Mitchell-Smith also plays his role very well, clearly talented at a young age.

As far as I'm concerned, 3 stars will definitely remain 3 stars.

Reasonable film about a young man who moves out on his own. The film sometimes lacks focus and feels a bit fragmented. But this standard teen comedy is easy to watch, also because of the few different storylines. Typical 80s, entertaining characters filled in by a nice cast. However: Art Linson has produced better films and Cameron Crowe has written better films.

This coming-of-age movie is seen as a kind of successor to Fast Times at Ridgemont High which was released two years earlier. Fast Times is one of the standard bearers of this kind of comedies and in my opinion The Wild Life should not be inferior. We follow various young people whose lives intersect at times. There is drama in the air but the tone remains light-hearted. It dates from the early 80s and for those who were there then, you can enjoy the many stylish moments in this film that nevertheless revolves around youth culture. It is funny that there is also a nostalgic subplot with the boy who has a penchant for sixties Jimi Hendrix and Steppenwolf, in combination with his obsession with Vietnam (also only 10 to 15 years before the release of this film). Definitely an entertaining film.
