Hana to Arisu plot
"Best friends and boyfriends, which one will you choose?"
Hana (Anne Suzuki) and Alice (Yû Aoi) are childhood friends. Alice is a licentious and above all free-spirited lady. And Hana has to constantly pick up the shards as a result. But Alice also brings her good things, such as her first great love. As she says herself, Alice has seen her love at first sight, a high school student, and takes the reluctant Hana in tow. Alice even suggests seeing her crush's boyfriend, Miyamoto (Tomohiro Kaku), as a candidate for herself. And although she initially has no interest in him at all, she starts to have feelings for him. Caught between love and friendship, the relationship between Hana and Alice slowly begins to change towards adulthood.

Watched this one and didn't think it was wrong, but a bit too long. Half way through I found the film a bit less interesting, but the beginning and end were strong.
The cast did a great job and the movie looked great. The music is also worth mentioning.
If the film had been shorter, I would have given it a higher score, but now it is 3.5*.

Hana to Arisu
Hana to Arisu is a strong and stylish coming of age film. Sometimes very busy and messy, but the sincere and personal moments make an impression. The somewhat theatrical acting is part of Asian cinema, but the two actresses (Suzuki and Aoi) are strong and provide some beautiful moments. Especially in the last part there are two powerful scenes (the dance scene is a gem). The build up to that is sometimes a bit messy, but it is certainly entertaining and intriguing.

Typically a film where the director makes and breaks the film. The film mostly consists of short moments that are all very beautiful, with the music and softly colored, not too sharp, dreamy images. That makes the film beautiful and fresh and really gives it its own identity. But conversely, the centrally told story, about 2 girls who grow apart towards adulthood, does not come out at all. For this, the direction zooms in at the wrong times. The film remains somewhat distant. As I understand later, these were also all kinds of separate episodes, which partly explains it. This is a slice of life without actually being such a slice. Anyway, a dance like that at the end makes up for a lot. 3.5*.
