Oregon, 1980. Jane, Elaine and Louise feel the effects of inflation and cannot afford some things. Things get worse when Jane's father moves in with her and starts meddling in all her affairs. Louise is happily married to Albert who is a dentist. She has her own antique shop, but thanks to the tax authorities she sees her turnover fall and gets into trouble. Elaine's husband dumps her for another woman, leaving behind plenty of debt as a keepsake. She is also in need of money and falls for police officer Jack. The local department store is giving away a large sum of money through a competition to combat inflation. Elaine comes up with a plan to steal the money and wants to divide it into three.
