Odd movie. Thriller - En Grym Film is a sometimes quite brutal exploitation film, featuring a cool avenger and both a lot of violence and explicit sex, but it does have quite a few weaker points. It could definitely have been half an hour shorter; besides the explicit explosions of sex, violence (although generally there isn't much gore to be seen except for the eye scene), and drugs, there are also a lot of slow sections – alongside a story in which a lot of illogical decisions are made, to the point of being ridiculous. Madeleine, for example, taking a silly little judo and rally driving course (how relevant) to become an avenging angel, and who doesn't really make the effort to escape or run away at all, which, despite the heroin storyline and the earlier violence from that pimp, didn't exactly seem like a difficult task.

But enough complaining, because yes, the story is weak and stretched out too long, but as an exploitation film, this is otherwise quite successful. Girl Lindberg has considerable screen presence without saying a word, and the film pushes the boundaries regarding sex and violence. A well-deserved cult/grindhouse/exploitation classic, and I’m willing to accept the occasionally bizarre scenes (those slow-motion kills, and that slowly played, constantly repeated death scream; or that police car music, WTF?) and plotting and the tediousness that sometimes comes with it.

I stumbled upon this film thanks to this site 100 Most Controversial Films of All Time. I watched the uncensored version of this thriller. You can guess what was cut out. The eye scene, of course, and the hardcore scenes. Well, a revenge movie stripped of all taboos, and that is how it should be. In any case, I was thoroughly entertained, and I thought it was brilliant how Madeleine took revenge on her tormentors. Yes, I love these kinds of avenging angels. Sometimes the film did go quite over the top. I'm talking about that car ride in the police car driven by that same Madeleine. But hey, so what, that’s movie, isn't it? Sometimes you just have to let your imagination run wild and not focus too much on whether the plot is believable or not.

4.5*

Technically, this film is of course just garbage, whether it’s the weird chase scene or the strange slow-motion shots, the bad editing and music; it’s all pretty laughable.

Tony portrays his character somewhat reasonably; as a scoundrel, he actually comes across as a bit believable, and as a viewer, you quickly grow to intensely hate him. The customers, however, are terrible caricatures and utterly unbelievable as characters.

Using feminism as a starting point will very rarely result in a good film.
