The love life of Charlotte (Jennifer Lopez) is a disaster. Until she meets handsome doctor Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan) at a party. He seems like the man of her dreams and the young couple decides to get married as soon as possible. However, Kevin's mother Viola (Jane Fonda) is not happy about that at all. She has very different suitors in mind for her son. In addition, she has just lost her job as a television presenter, which does not help her mood. With a sugary smile on her face, she decides to thwart the wedding in every possible way. Together with her assistant Ruby (Wanda Sykes), she turns into a real nightmare for the young bride. But Charlotte doesn't even think about letting her lover take her away. A hilarious battle ensues between Viola and Charlotte...

The story is of course a bit cliché, but the performances of Fonda and Sykes make this comedy a fun film. No tears of laughter with this film, a few laughs will suffice. All in all worth seeing this one. Lopez isn't exactly one of my favorite actresses, but she certainly doesn't do badly in the end.

A film that revolves around someone who wants to avoid marriage by being impossible. It reminds a bit of Bride Wars, but also somehow of Crazy Rich Asians, although of course that film was made later. It all feels quite forced and not very original and the ending can of course also be predicted. Acting isn't exactly great either, especially Lopez. And if the actress who creates the best moments (Sykes) also fails to convince, then something is wrong. 1*.
