Cool! plot

Five friends engage in street robbery and other petty crimes, often involving brute force. When they are asked by Prof, leader of a gang involved in bigger crime, to help in a major robbery, they agree. The robbery fails and the five friends are arrested. To their horror, they are not sentenced to the usual juvenile prison, but to an alternative punishment: a year and a half of re-education at the harsh Glen Mills School.

As someone said before: a drama in the literal sense of the word.

It all starts quite nicely with a ''realistic'' rendering of the Glenn Mills and the authentic rascals who play the lead roles. But for some reason the cast has to be supplemented with all kinds of celebrities. Katja Schuurman as the girlfriend of one of the boys, yeah right, she's at least ten years older. Johnny de Mol as a gangster leader who has so many mannerisms that it looks like a villain from Bassie and Adriaan. In the end, it all culminates in an unbelievable thriller that can't decide whether it's serious or funny. And then always that damn song of keep your head cool through it. You would boil for less with anger.

Lame! (2004)

Oof! What a bad movie.
I obviously didn't have high expectations, but this one was really bad. cool! is a laughable movie from all sides.

I don't exactly see Theo V. Gogh as a good director. I also really like this job for him. And if you also add such a ridiculous cast. Look, Katja Schuurman... okay. Acting doesn't really want to but it's okay to watch that. Johnny de Mol... who the hell would be casting Johnny de Mol? What a lousy actor. Furthermore, all those Turks and Moroccans were anything but credible.

What I absolutely cannot stand is that those actors and v. Gogh think that with this film they are portraying what young people think is cool, or should actually represent something cool. Like that poster, with that graffiti. That just looks childish. And a professor with his winter hat. Just very ugly.

I was also annoyed by a number of scenes that apparently had to be serious:
When prof is smoking with all his Turkish friends and he is going to tell a story about how applause and cheering sounded from the streets and from the balconies after their sex party De Mol got on my nerves .
And in the end, when Prof gets shot... well, that was just so damn bad! How fake can you drop dead? Bah!

1*

Well now what a negativity below. Keep your cool!

I surprisingly liked it. Just expected it to be from the late 90's. There was such an atmosphere. I especially liked the music. They rapped well. Script was predictable but okay. The actors were a bit disappointing, including Katja Schuurman, Johnny de Mol and Gerrit Zalm. No wonder they haven't broken through.
