A bit dated now, but despite that this is a fun and above all cheerful Comedy / Crime with an excellent Peter Sellers (master of disguises and playing different characters). The story is quite nice and there is often something to laugh about (typical 60's silly humour). Visually the film was certainly impressive as the decors and sets often looked beautiful. The latter certainly also applies to the beautiful Maria Grazia Buccella. By the way, I saw this film on the MGM channel.

PS the musical support for many comedic scenes was also nicely done.

Although Peter Sellers is a great comedian with his surprising statements and very special accent, this Fox stuff is just a nobody without pretension. With the hair-pulling story, a grotesque Victor Mature and Britt Ekland who could just as well have stayed at home. Pleasant (?) moments are all too scarce.

What a bad comedy. The 60s were a really shitty decade for cinema. Lame humor, politically correct... bahbah. This is also a comedy with little to laugh about. It's personal, I admit, but Peter Sellers is not for me. Some people think he's brilliant, others don't like him at all. I also didn't like The Pink Panther. That guy just kept talking endlessly. Then the absurd humor such as that long scene where "the Fox" shows a fake movie with a certain Tony Powell, played by Victor Mature, the only actor in this film who makes something of it. The core story (the import of gold from Cairo) remains on the sidelines for almost the entire film and only returns in the last fifteen minutes. In the meantime, we have to put up with a lot of insufferable nonsense.

I think highly of De Sica as a director, but I didn't like this comedy. Although that cameo of his is very worthwhile.
