Spice World plot

"You say you want a revolution?"

The Spice Girls lead a fantastic but hectic life. They tour around in their Spice bus, but when their best friend turns out to be pregnant, they want to spend a lot of time with her. This much to the dismay of the seedy record boss The Chief. To get his way, he puts more and more pressure on Clifford, the girls' increasingly neurotic manager. It is a week full of crazy situations, strange encounters and above all a lot of music and a lot of girl power, which culminates in a great 'live' performance on the last day.

One big nightmare this movie. Panic, run, scream, blood and humans transforming into monsters. The images are as hysterical as the people.

Perfectly portrayed the Kafkaian feeling. You don't know what's going on at all. The outside world is closed off, from within there is danger everywhere, chaotic conditions, no one to trust,

80 minutes on a roller coaster of hysteria, confusion and adrenaline.

And idk, watching to the end, completes the sickly dark world. Not so delicious.

'Spice World' (1997) is either a postmodern masterpiece about a group of young women trapped in the prefabricated straitjacket of the celebrity cult; or a particularly lazy attempt to capitalize on a media hype. The Spice Girls tour their bus, things happen, they test clothes, prepare concerts or perform, and other things happen. In the meantime, 'the girls' have real personalities because their one-dimensional characters are a bit fatter than usual. Do I even taste a mocking 'self-reflexive' nod to their formation as girl band!? With jokes about their fabricated persona and a bold kind of Britishness, like Roger Moore who enjoys his role as Spice villain instead of Bond villain a bit too much.

The movie works nicely as it plays with the campy side of the pop group. Their songs (I can still sing them all...), their crazy hops and dances and of course their trademark: the frenzied fashion statements. And those good old nineties when cynical hard jokes and overt sexism were still allowed in a teenage girl production. But there's a reason a music video isn't 93 minutes long, because nonsensical randomness gets repetitive if it's only meant to support the image of a popular girl band. A lot of impressions without soul or emotion, but with a nostalgic vibe because of course they are just The Spice Girls. All those memories...
