Much Loved plot

In the middle of the night a limousine drives through Marrakech. Perfectly groomed and busy talking, Noha, Soukaina and Randa are on their way to an exclusive party. The three women are prostitutes. They sell their bodies to wealthy Arabs and Europeans, who pick them up in nightclubs, restaurants and at parties. Their daily lives have little in common with the boisterous party world: they are regularly threatened and ostracized by their families. When they meet the young, inexperienced prostitute Hlima, a new, close friendship develops. Something the women cherish above all else. With dignity and emancipation, they defy the society that uses and condemns them.

I didn't like this drama about prostitutes in Marrakech at all. The characters were superficial and inept, which made them unsympathetic, and the dialogue consisted mostly of insults. The human side of the story was underplayed. I expected something better from Ayouch... he's a complete failure with this subject. After an hour, it was completely unbearable. Flop.

A decent film about the hypocritical position of prostitutes in the Arab world. On the one hand, they are the center of lust and pleasure for the wealthier "upper class," while on the other, they are looked down upon and treated as outcasts because this profession supposedly doesn't belong in the Islamic world. Bullshit. Logically, this treatment, despite some tensions, leads to solidarity and camaraderie. Director Nabil Ayouch not only chose an apt title but also succeeds in highlighting the ambivalent position of the prostitutes and the hypocrisy. Excellent film.

If, while watching this film, the accounting mindset is replaced by a generous emotional one, then with a little imagination, it can be experienced as a story that transcends superficial prejudices through the loving and humorous way it uses images to illustrate how to deal with painful situations that aren't always pleasant. I found it a rich film full of warm humanity.
