two sons separated at birth, one grows up as the future but sadistic king of France, the other ends up with 1 of the 4 musketeers where he becomes a just man, but he is ignorant of the fact that he is the twin brother of the cruel is king.
Fate brings them together and the king uses his likeness to get rid of his enemies and when he is finally informed of his brother's existence he has him locked up in the bastille with an iron mask over his face.
To my knowledge the oldest version of Dumas' story and certainly an entertaining one.
Joan Bennett beautifully plays the royal heiress of Spain who is destined to marry the French king.
The 4 musketeers provide some light-hearted humor in the story and that is certainly a welcome change.
I have seen the version with Dicaprio once, but I will definitely watch it again to make a comparison with this version.
