Crna Macka, Beli Macor (1998)

The humor is a bit bland, but because the film is completely crazy and crazy anyway, that doesn't matter: the film is a wonderful orgy of idiocy and sensory stimulation, but at the same time has a good story and is still quite believable. The film is a kind of Fellini-squared, a Tom Waits-laughing gas or a The Good, The Bad and The Ugly on amphetamine. The movie definitely has its flaws but I enjoyed it!

Kusturica really pulls out all the stops in terms of cinematic fun and throws it into a busy whole, a kind of Wes Anderson in overdrive. Unfortunately, not everything works equally well and often leads to nothing more than a smile on your face.

In terms of music and accompanying atmosphere, the film will undoubtedly have had a major influence on that Balkan pop/beats culture.

'It is that this is over twenty years old, otherwise I would say that Kusturica is one of the few contemporary directors who took a good look at Fellini, especially Amarcord. It is striking that Kusturica is so out of fashion that the last film that came out here was 14 years ago. This one never reaches the level of the much better Underground, but it is a chunk of chaotic energy of the kind you don't see often anymore. So much energy that you can get away with it with some really lame jokes.
