Young Frenchman Tony crashed with his sports plane in a gypsy camp, killing a few children. Tony flees from the gypsies, who want revenge. He joins a gang in Canada and starts a relationship with one of the female gang members.

Excellent film in which a man on the run ends up with a group of criminals. Excellent location work and stunt work during the opening and partly also during the finale. In between, the film is almost entirely set in one location. The characters and their mutual relationships are strongly developed. Beautiful music also by Francis Lai (which could just as well have been by Ennio Morricone).

Slow but well-spun thriller drama in which the title "The path of the hare through the fields" covers the load, because various events in the lives of the main characters, Trintignan and Ryan, are a direct cause for the course of the film. The psyche and the desire are well linked with small references to previous persons and events. In the Finale for example the café with billiards (balls) and the one poster on the wall.
