Italiensk for Begyndere plot

"Attendance optional. Passion required."

In a Danish town, a group of people is taking an Italian course: a hairdresser, the girl from the bakery, the manager of a restaurant, the manager of the sports hall, the new pastor... They are all alone in life: maybe it is the hope of a little 'amore' that makes them toil over the difference between a pizza and a piazza. On a trip to Venice, they can put what they have learned into practice - and the Italian sun gets a chance to bring people together.

The box said romantic comedy, but this wasn't actually the case. 3/4 of the movie was more drama and let's say the last half hour is more romance. So I expected a Bridget Jones movie or something, but I was a bit disappointed

Humor wasn't really present either, or I didn't understand the Danish humor

The movie was filmed according to the Dogma 95 rules, but the movie came across as very disorderly, especially in the beginning.

The acting was good, but the film wasn't really that high-flyer.

Fair as a drama, bad as a romantic comedy.

Nice movie. Doesn't really feel like Dogme at all (although the Maserati is strikingly out of the picture), especially since Italiensk for begyndere is a film with a lot of compassion for its characters. Although they are somewhat archetypal, they are very sympathetic in their uncertainty. A few nice jokes and the whole thing with Italian top it off. I round up; little three and a half.

Charming romantic comedy, partly ruined by the strict rules of Dogme 95. In terms of camera work and sets, the film doesn't look like much. Fortunately, the sympathetic cast saves the day. The characters are nicely developed, with disarming dialogues and funny plot lines.
