"After tradition… comes revolution."
China in the 1930s. A Red Army soldier visits a rural community to collect folk songs. He meets a peasant girl and opens her eyes to the world outside the village. After he has returned to his army unit, the young woman threatens to be married off, after which she decides to flee.
