Mayerling plot
Late 19th century. Grand Duke Ruldolph, the Crown Prince of Austria, is a reactionary young man who prefers the company of gypsies and commoners to that of aristocrats. In an attempt to break his rebellious spirit, his father, Emperor Francis Joseph, wants to force him into an arranged marriage and has his spies constantly follow him. However, the young prince manages to shake off his assailants and visits an annual fair incognito. Here he meets Marie, with whom he finds attention and warmth. However, she does not know who he really is. An idyllic romance ensues and it seems that nothing can stand in the way of their happiness.
