"Out-thrills them all!"
Journalist Lee Taylor begins an investigation into the so-called Moon Killer, a crazy psychopath who strangles, mutilates and partially eats his victims. All traces lead to Dr. Xavier, a professor who conducts strange experiments with some colleagues.

After Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) also immediately set up this one by Curtiz. Not really my thing. Thought the ending was really cool, it also shows some comparison acquaintances with Mystery of the Wax Museum. A spectacular finale with ditto revelation. Still, that doesn't save the film. Most of it is a dry whodunnit-like event.
''DOCTOR X is one of those heartbreaking films to watch for a fan of old horror movies, because it has so many wonderful things going for it yet just narrowly misses the mark of being really good due to a liability or two which could have been avoided.'' There's something in that. The tone of the film is just not right, thanks in part to Lee Tracy. Such a ''funny/fun'' character is a curse in the early 30's horror movies...

a lot of atmosphere with some horror elements in it combined with a touch of humor in between, a special film with a somewhat bland finale, but nevertheless worth watching especially because of the atmospheric images and the curiosity about who the murderer was.
