If you are looking for a decent martial arts film, you better ignore The Silent Flute. But I can't help feeling that Tarantino got quite a bit of inspiration from this for Kill Bill. Just the fact that David Carradine walks around here with a flute as his only weapon says it all. Moreover, there are quite a few wisdoms and spells thrown around. It's not all good, but if you don't take it so seriously it's just a nice campy film.

"It's hard to kill a horse with a flute."

Good movie. Have seen it under its alternate title The Silent Flute. This fairly unknown and underrated film has a nice atmosphere. The story was created by Martial Arts legend Bruce Lee. Great actors like Cristopher Lee, Roddy McDowall and Eli Wallace star in it. In addition, this film was a source for Kill Bill and Kung-Fu Panda.

The Kung-Fu fights in this movie are very mediocre and can't match those of Lee's own movies. Occasionally the shots during the fights are very bad. There are many beautiful pieces in it. The landscapes and sets are beautifully made. Effects are nice.

Bruce Smeaton's music was very good and at times resembles Bil Conti's Karate Kid score.

The story is very good. Bruce Lee has delivered a nice story. I especially liked the ending scene, Zitan is not a fighter but a very civilized man and the book is full of mirrors (which is also the case with Kung-Fu Panda with the dragon scroll).

David Carradine did a good job as The Blind Man. Roddy McDowall, who everyone knows of course as Cornelius/Ceasar in the Planet of the Apes movie, did a great job here as White Robe. Eli Wallach, who of course everyone knows as Tuco Ramirez, also did a nice job as the man in oil. Christopher Lee was brilliant as always, as he said in an interview "I want to surprise people, do things differently than they expect" he succeeded very well here. Ridiculous that he is in this for such a short time and is laughed at by that blunder of a Cord.

Good movie! 4 stars because it's a bit underrated, has a really strong ending, and has Christopher Lee in it.

One word : horrible !

You wonder what the familiar faces in this production actually do?

Very boring sitting, weak action scenes and a lousy story. 1/10
