Still even better than I had expected in advance.

I had only seen The Leech Woman, an atmospheric B-horror film from 1960, by director Edward Dein.

Dein once again managed to capture the right atmosphere in Curse of the Undead.

The evening shots in particular are beautifully captured.

Add to that the typical music, which I am crazy about, and the battle is half won.

The cast also didn't fail to impress, and with Eric Fleming and Michael Pathe they had perfect leading actors.

My absence from Fleming came back to life watching this.

What a loss of a charismatic actor, with a beautiful voice, who left us far too soon.

Pathe imitates, more or less successfully, the typical John Wayne walk, funny to watch.

(Wayne himself didn't do that naturally either)

He looks impressive in his black and silver outfit.

His black horse, with silver-plated harness, matches it perfectly.

The vampire premise fits in quite well with the western setting, and the ending of the film is very nicely thought out.

Unfortunately I don't have the Blu-ray that Mac Hammer Fan mentioned earlier, but the Italian DVD release doesn't leave much to be desired.

Vampirism in a western, now that's something different.

The vampire in question (played very well and charismatically by Michael Pathe) works on

particularly cunning way to his goal. Also with excellent roles from Edward Binns as the

sheriff, Eric Fleming as the priest and the blonde beauty Kathleen Crowley where Pathe

has anticipated. The vampire, by the way, is almost betrayed halfway through by a vignette

with a cross on the priest's chest, when I had to smile because

even with a black bow that doesn't quite form a cross or Pathe might have been caught out right away

cases. Not intentional of course, but a coincidental detail. Occasionally there is also

played with beautiful shadows, and the film looks neat anyway. The ending is

indeed nice, the extra that convinced me to give it a 3.5 rating

to come.

Still a special film genre where horror and western are combined. More western than horror here and the horror is not really scary. We do have a vampire cowboy here.

Now, apart from the vampire, quite an entertaining western. I saw a restored version and that looked quite good. A limited but solid plot about a feud over a piece of land and the hassle about it. Acting was decent by the way.
