It's a shame that this film has been so forgotten. I can't blame anyone for that, because it was only after years and years that I was able to see this film myself. Yet this film is a film that a large group here at MM would like. A special film, both humorous and exciting. Very strong cinematography, very comparable to the quality of Dhalia's successor Drained, where special angles are also chosen, which often have a funny effect.

For people who have seen many Brazilian films, the guest roles of Mattheus Nachergaele, Lazaro Ramos and especially the blind Wagner Moura are funny. For others, the film can indeed be compared well with the atmosphere of Polanski's thrillers, quite claustrophobic and audiovisually a lot more versatile. The film, as Onderhond indicates, lacks just that intensity, which would make it an even better film. The ingredients are there, perhaps it would be even better in a good cinema.

All in all, definitely a film that should be picked up by MovieMeter again.

Nice snack.

But I still feel like the potential wasn't fully utilized. Every time the film tries to intensify, the scenes in question are cut off rather quickly, which sometimes leaves you feeling a bit hungry. The soundtrack is strong enough, often closely matching Nina's state of mind, but at the moments when the film needs to pop, the gear lever just needed a big swing.

Visually, it is largely passable, and the economical running time ensures that the film is watchable at a rapid pace. Moments that offered comic relief were also successful, that dance scene with the blind man is a striking example of this. The integration with the comics is also nice, although it deserved some more attention.

Ultimately, quite a nice mix from Brazilian soil. But it lacks some real bravado to call it a top performer. 3.0*.

Nice review.

Looking back, a film that typified the spirit of the times. There were more of these types of mindfuck videos, which were mainly about atmosphere. The fact that it was Brazilian and had a more banging soundtrack made the (positive) difference for me. And it continues to do so.

Story and setup are basic. A young woman is bullied by her landlord because she cannot pay the rent. When she almost ends up on the street, she has increasingly dark thoughts, and the line between fiction and reality immediately becomes blurred. Throw in a childhood trauma and you know what to do.

Visually very neat, although it would be nice if the film were given a polish. The soundtrack is strong, the acting is good and it's compact enough that it doesn't get boring. It's a shame that the film has not become better known, hopefully within about 10 years there will be a second chance for this little gem.

4.0* and a extensive review
