Tsigoineruwaizen plot
First part of the trilogy set in the Taisho period: the 1920s with a Japan in decline. Marginal figures live between hope and fear. Aochi, a German professor, saves his former friend and classmate Nakasago from being arrested after a murder. Their friendship is rekindled when they both fall for the local geisha Koine. But when Nakasago marries the similarly-looking Sono, Aoichi and Nakagaso's mutual obsession for both Koine and their own wives rises. Are these men and women really who they are? Paranoia and deceit have their influence on the friendship.
