Boogeyman plot

"You thought it was just a story."

Tim seems to be living a normal and happy life in Chicago. However, nothing could be further from the truth, because he is haunted by a terrifying past that has to do with the monster from the bedroom closet: the Boogeyman. When Tim's mother dies, with whom he had lost contact, he returns to his parental home in the countryside. Tim must face his fears and overcome them. The only way to get there is to spend a night alone in the mysterious dilapidated Victorian house.

Was okay.

It just can't work with me and horror. Either I choose something completely wrong every time, or this just really isn't my genre, but this is the umpteenth one that I actually had a hard time appreciating. In terms of story, this was just pure jerk, afterwards you don't even know what you've seen since it's all so meager, there is absolutely no tension or structure and the dialogues came out rather vague. Visually it is good again, especially the bathroom scenes I thought were very well done. Fortunately, as a fan of production design in horror films, I am somewhat satisfied. It's not original, but it all looked nice and dark. But let's face it, this is still a damn bad movie. Playing time was just right, but really shouldn't have lasted a minute longer. Bad movie with some minor flaws.

1,5 stars for this formless story with some charisma

It's a shame it turned out so poorly. As a child, everyone will have checked under the bed and in the closet before sleeping to see if it was safe. With a good plot, it should be quite capable of making the Boogeyman a new horror icon. Unfortunately, Stephen Kay has not had good plot writers at his disposal. The problem is not in the acting (although that was not very special, rather solid) or in the camera work (had an atmospheric eighties touch), but mainly in the fact that the scares mainly consisted of sudden, loud noises or someone running fast somewhere in the background. The beginning was the best. Where many say the last eight minutes were weak, I actually found the last eighty minutes on the meager side. The Boogeyman looked cool in the first scene. The sequel is quite off the mark. Certain scenes were quite peculiar and some things seemed completely out of the blue. It's a shame that people don't go off the beaten track, so The Boogeyman doesn't score higher than the average thirteen-in-a-dozen horror film. The ending gets a bit more interesting as finally something happens again, but I have to admit that the ending wasn't particularly good indeed. Two more parts to go, but I'm having a hard time with it.

Still quite a good horror film, which still has its pretty scary ghost moments. The build-up and the reasonably dark atmosphere are well put together and the entire plot around it is also nicely worked out. (they are primal fears after all) Boogeyman has the things a horror movie should have. But only the ending throws a spanner in the works and that's a shame. I would have preferred to see such an open ending, which almost all ghost movies have (and every one knows how to touch me), but this one was lacking. The bombasm would have liked a little less because that always ruins the atmosphere

But otherwise a great horror movie

3.5*
