A trifle of a film, but an entertaining trifle in itself. Joan Crawford plays a tough circus owner, where at one point performer after performer kicks the bucket. The film is a kind of whodunit, with a few short murder scenes, in a circus setting. It is quite entertaining, also because there are regular circus acts to provide some entertainment, and it looks fine and colorful. The cast is quite variable, Joan Crawford and some of the agents do well, but the circus performers in particular were mainly chosen for their circus qualities, and not for their acting talent. It doesn't get really exciting, and the hour and a half was long for this film, but for a lazy morning this was quite okay.

Quite a nice film with a convincing role by Joan Crawford. Diana Dors was also good in her role and Robert Hardy as inspector as well. The rest of the cast is rather mediocre, especially the role of the daughter tends towards heavy overacting. Not much happens in it, certainly not in the area of horror. The scene with the nail through the head is one of the few horror elements. Nice circus acts, especially the act with the poodles was really cool. Entertaining, no more or less. 6/10
