"The Water Stirs"
Silent Waters is about the rise of Muslim fundamentalism and the vulnerable rights of women. Summer 1979, in the peaceful Pakistani village of Charkhi: Ayer, a widow still haunted by the war that accompanied Pakistan's secession from India, dedicates her life to her son Saleem. Saleem (18) is deeply in love with the beautiful and proud Zubeidaa, who wants to escape the cramped village life. This simple love story turns into a thriller when General Zia seizes power: with them arrive the young zealots of fundamentalism. Saleem takes up arms and Ayer is forced to reveal a painful secret.
