"No parents. No teachers. No rules... No mercy."
After a plane crash, 25 school children and a seriously injured pilot are stranded on a desert island. One of them, Ralph, is chosen as leader. Together with the good but somewhat flabby Piggy, he tries to organize their life on the island somewhat. It is also agreed that they will build a fire at the highest point of the island that must burn day and night. However, it soon becomes apparent that a group of boys, led by the ambitious Jack, do not want to see the seriousness of the matter. They would rather play than catch fish and hunt rather than keep the fire going. Just as they have let the fire go out, a helicopter flies over.

Boring and good? As a child I sometimes fantasized about what it would be like to live on an island with a lot of peers. Except for some impractical and difficult things, it is above all a great adventure. So I was not bored. For an hour and a half the makers try to portray that feeling, but at the same time deepen the characters and expose the problems. I can't imagine a book of barely 250 pages could do that better.
Lord Of The Flies has a somewhat post-apocalyptic atmosphere about it. Whatever is done is anarchism and opportunism at its best. Frankly, I find the naturalization quite interesting to watch. It's astonishing to read that this film is being treated so condescendingly, while the children in an hour of (film) time turn into little monsters who effortlessly kill their fellow sufferers. It seemed most convincing to me. The island is a beautiful setting for it and the acting isn't bad at all. It does remind a bit of Lost, where the main characters have the same problem. Check out the book soon.

Nothing is more unreliable than human nature. A group of young military cadets are stranded on a desert island and must survive together. At some point, conflicts arise and they split into two groups. One is led by the eldest, Ralph, who is a rational planner, the other by Jack, whose dominating combative instincts emerge.
In the last half hour things get very pessimistic and sobering when the battle between the children threatens to spiral out of control. It is therefore no longer clear what exactly it is all about. You can see that the director, a documentary maker, is well versed in filming in nature. The images are paradisiacally beautiful, and that is a huge contrast with the darkness that unfolds inside the young people.

Not very bad, but a lot less than the 1963 version. The movie is a bit different from the book. The biggest problems, however, are in the editing, a strong point with the old film and a weak point here. The film feels much less like a running whole and much more like a and-then-and-then story. Furthermore, the characters (or maybe archetypes) are much leaner. Piggy and Ralph are less the voice of reason, but more mini-adults and not very believable really. This makes the film feel a lot flatter. And I don't really know what to think of a British elite children's choir becoming an American military school. Getty is without a doubt the best actor in the film and the only one to have more or less made a career out of it.
