Magical-realistic episodic film (and yet not).

It starts off like a sort of superior Twilight Zone story with Marcello Mastroianni once again (wonderful to see this legend back) and then we get the second story and in the third story we see characters from previous stories appear only to have everything tied together again in the final story including the four Mastroiannis.

Special film, pleasantly surprised.

Well, opinions will be divided, but I didn't find this film—the last one with Mastroianni, if I'm not mistaken—extremely captivating. I certainly had trouble staying asleep, it was so boring. The only scene that captivated me was that surreal scene with the man with the hammer in his head and then those chicks . It's all very funny, and for me, easily the best scene in this rather disappointing film.

2.0*

An imaginative and at times atmospheric drama-comedy with a striking first half-hour, in which a quietly constructed story is regularly enlivened with original twists. Marcello Mastroianni plays an excellent, controlled lead role, particularly effective as a mysterious presence. However, director Raoul Ruiz's narrative subsequently chooses a path with more conventional narratives, where drama takes a significant back seat to fantasy. The various forms of romance and unexciting events within these scenes fail to resonate, leaving this French film with a sense of fading.
