Mediocre Scorsese with a lot of nonsensical and boring talk about what Christianity would stand for etc. For most of the movie I was gawking at the time hoping the movie would be over soon because this was just an awfully long sit.

Initially I thought Willem Dafoe was a complete miscast as Jesus, his speeches were far from convincing and he didn't look like a Jesus figure at all, it could have been done better by many actors. It wasn't until the last hour at the crucifixion that I got to see some stronger acting from Dafoe. Harvey Keitel also didn't put in a very good acting performance and I can't even remember the rest of the cast. The soundtrack was also not special, but that applies to several of Scorsese's films. The story clearly shows that it does not completely correspond to the Bible, especially from the part with the crucifixion the story takes a completely different turn. Definitely a lesser film by Scorsese.

Terribly boring.

This has to be the worst Martin Scorsese movie I've seen so far. One would almost think that while filming he was in crisis not only with his faith, but also with filmmaking. As a non-believer, I can hardly imagine how to really get lost in films like this one, in which faith and the questions surrounding it are central. The genre does not seem to suit me - in the meantime I have already seen a few Jesus films and they always score very low.

Besides the fact that this film mainly consists of uninteresting posturing, there are still some problems. The film, for example, at times resembles a parody of the Jesus story - Harvey Keitel, almost the cliche of a New York scum, is a huge miscast and the perfect example of what went wrong with this film. Inadvertently, this seems like laughing at Jesus, when it is meant to be very serious. And this for 2.5 hours. Almost impossible to sit out.

Temptation... but without a tropical island and dreamdates

All kidding aside. In the beginning I was like, wow, what a strange film. But once in the story, it was worth watching. The story is not a blind film adaptation, so there are a number of changes.

Despite the long playing time, it wasn't really boring, partly because of the cast.

I was a bit apprehensive about the theme, but in the end it was worth watching.
