The plot was quite good. For me, the film had enough substance to keep me captivated. The acting, however, was a bit lethargic, and I missed the energy that comes from a good film noir. Newman was still passable, with an understanding of his 70-plus years, so one shouldn't expect any major stunts or action. The disappointment came mainly from Susan Sarandon, who refuses to play a true femme fatale. Humor was also never far away. It's not exactly a comedy, but the filmmakers clearly wanted to make Twilight an easily digestible noir, and they largely succeeded. 3*

A good film in which a former cop and private detective is tasked by a wealthy couple to find their daughter. It's an old-fashioned film noir with a sarcastic voiceover. While the plot moves along nicely, the film itself is a bit slow. The characters are fairly standard, but the cast is excellent and elevates the film.

A film with a somewhat elderly Paul Newman, and the pacing is also a bit geriatric. On the other hand, the acting is excellent, and almost the entire cast consists of top actors who all give a fantastic performance – an honorable mention goes to Giancarlo Esposito.

I can't really consider it a true film noir, or an ode to it, because the main character is too nice and civilised for that.
