Modigliani plot

"His passion was life. His obsession was art."

Paris 1919. This is the story of the rivalry between two great artists: Modigliani (Andy Garcia) and Picasso (Omid Djalili). Two men whose jealousy is driven by their brilliance, their arrogance and their passions. It is also the story of the greatest love tragedy in art history: Jeanne Hebuterne (Elsa Zylberstein), a beautiful young Catholic woman, falls in love with Modigliani, a Jew, much to her father's dismay. They have a child. Driven by his religious intolerance, Jeanne's father sends their child away to a monastery. At the same time, Paris is preparing for the annual art competition. Modigliani enrolls to save their child, prompting Picasso to participate as well. The battle between the greatest artists erupts...

I didn't really know the name Modigliani. Knew it was a painter, but couldn't place it right away. This film occasionally makes a mockery of history, but as far as the work and life of the painter himself is concerned, I think it gives a good picture. A man who died young and did not exactly live in luxury, but was weighed down by illness, drugs and alcohol. Garcia is in shape and Picasso has done a nice job but luckily in this film somewhat in the shadow of Modigliani. Jeanne in particular is very well cast. However, as far as the paintings are concerned, she does draw a little less in her photo. But come on, it's still film of course.

You can compare Modigliani with Amadeus, who mainly wants to create an atmosphere for the main character and does use anachronisms here and there. Strange to hear Edith Piaf in the early 20th century with a song that wouldn't be written until 30 years later.

Is the film historically correct? Partly yes, but a large part of the storyline certainly not. But I do think that with this image you get to know the artist world in 1919 and you get a picture of the painter Modigliani. It won't be epic or overblown, but it's definitely made with a love for art.

In itself a very nice film, but the problem is again that the filmmakers are playing all kinds of jokes with what really happened. There has been such a rivalry between Amedeo Modigliani and Henry Matisse, but not with Picasso.

It's also funny that a cubist like Picasso is presented as convex… …that doesn't match reality twice.

The facts are also taken for granted on other points. Don't expect an exact biography, but the film is good (humorous) and looks very nice. Very nicely done, nonetheless.

I am also a fan of Modigliani's work and also interested in his life.

Nice to know the story behind Modigliani's paintings.

The film gives a nice insight into the world of artists in 1919 Paris.

The actress who plays Jeanne was very well cast. She looked exactly like the Jeanne in the paintings, even more than the 'real' Jeanne.

Historically correct or not, it captivated me from start to finish.
