Rex Gildo - De Val van een Schlagerkoning plot
In his 40-year career, Rex Gildo had dozens of hits and sold millions of records worldwide. For years he was the headliner at the Kerkrade Schlager festival with his handsome appearance - always in a suit, sunbed brown and with a radiant white smile. But in the 1980s his musical career came to a head. The schlager industry faced competition from other styles of music and many younger fans turned their backs on the once beloved life song singer. Rex couldn't accept that it was over. He continued to perform, albeit now in backrooms and at weddings and parties. In Rex Gildo, director Hans Heijnen goes in search of the truth behind the glamour. In conversations with fellow singer Freddy Breck and friend/assistant Dave, the portrait of a lonely man is created, who wanted to please the whole world, but slowly but surely went down in the brutal artist life.
