A man travels to a race-ridden town where his brother was murdered for refusing to pay white police officers to protect his bar. When he himself is threatened, he enlists some friends who in turn begin to terrorize the town. Then he turns into a one-man army to put things in order.

Reasonable film in which a man starts running his deceased brother's café, but then gets into trouble with the local corrupt and racist police. A typical blaxploitation film with a fair amount of violence and some female nudity here and there. Fred Williamson and Pam Grier are well-placed here and the story is entertaining enough for a solid 3.0 stars.

Nice crime film in typical 70s style that relies mainly on heavy dialogues and Over The Top acting. Pam Grier knows how to distinguish herself as an actress.
In terms of atmosphere and scenario, the first half hour in particular is quite strong. After the change in the middle, the film slows down a bit and ultimately ends with good, solid action. The social layer that the film has gives it something extra, but overall it is all just a bit too low budget to rise above the cult level.
Great entertainment but not bombastic.

Better blaxploitation. With Williamson and Grier, the film focuses on the greatest actors from the genre. Everything is there again for an hour and a half of entertainment. Racist white people, fights and shootings, some tits,... although this film is a lot braver than many others in that regard. A pure genre film. The action looks a bit cheap, especially in the long brawl between Roy and Duke but in such films I like to overlook that. This is part of it somewhere.
