The Sound Barrier plot
Tony is a successful fighter pilot in WWII. After the war, he marries Susan, the daughter of wealthy oil magnate John Ridgefield. John also designs airplanes and is obsessed with the idea that his company will be the first to break the sound barrier. He uses Tony as a test pilot which will lead to great tension between father and daughter.

The test flights are very well made and exciting, but the drama part in the film did not interest me at all. My problem was that not only Ann Todd, but no actor or actress could charm me. Although they don't act badly, I couldn't get any connection with any of the players, which made the movie take a long time.
I really liked the music during the movie. Especially very busy and at times appropriate, but also completely out of place in other scenes.
But as I said, the scenes with the test planes were nicely done - what a beautiful sight, those old fighter jets! - and also the ending, which of course can be guessed, is exciting.

Good film about an army pilot who is going to marry the daughter of an aircraft designer. A fictional story about an important step in the history of flying (the first jet engine aircraft). The relationships between the three main characters are well developed. The film is entertaining and the best scenes are in the last part (especially the last few conversations between father and daughter). Easily 3.5 stars.
