"Meet a man dying to live"
Wilbur tries again and again to take his own life, but so far he has not succeeded. His unique appeal, especially to women, his spunk and charm cannot hide the fact that he is weighed down by great pessimism. The disillusionment with Wilbur is so great that he seriously questions the meaning of his life on earth. In contrast to his older brother Harbor who is an unparalleled optimist and who has made ensuring happiness in Wilbur's life an important goal. The two eccentric brothers, in their late thirties, live in Glasgow where they have inherited a dilapidated bookshop, the only memory of their recently deceased father.

Beautiful human film with a touch of sadistic humor. Also very recognizable for people who have ever considered suicide, because it stays away from all prejudices, wrong sentiments and overly romanticizing surrounding suicide.

I continue to think that the biggest objection to this film is that, and this is not actually discussed in these discussions, that Wilbur is in bed all the time with the wife of his terminally ill brother, and that there really is some kind of relief to be had. can be seen on the faces of Wilbur and the woman when they stand at his grave..
No matter how believable that may be, it remains a grisly situation and I never believe that in real life people would react this way to those circumstances. If necessary, you feign some emotions, but this was really rude behavior.
Otherwise an entertaining film, but nothing more than that...

Not entirely successful romantic comedy, with a slightly uncomfortable mix of humor and drama. Fortunately, as the film progresses, the plot and characters gain emotional momentum and the film confidently builds towards a beautiful ending. Scriptwriter Anders Thomas Jensen has done better work, but it is of course nice that his regular actor Mads Mikkelsen appears here in a dryly funny, understated supporting role.
