Interesting film, with its flaws.

It is still of high quality. The opening is very strong and somewhat reminiscent of Crepuscule. Black and white, those cameramen in the park, startling characters, that young woman who starts to become delirious in her Berlin apartment, and the other necessary mysterious things. The film slowly managed to get under my skin.

It's a shame that, while you were just dizzying, full speed is thrown in. But it can still go either way. And it could. Severine tours through the woods and is stalked by a Rolls Royce... Then, after her car also breaks down, she ends up at a large house. And then you know.

It turns out to be a neatly set up game and Severine soon has to deal with a snuff gang who are targeting her. Okay, the switch was still doable, but then comes the thing that really ruins the exciting (chase) scenes: the inclusion of a soundtrack that you would rather have to use for chases in a Bassie & Adriaan episode hear.... A real killer. Why not a dark Ambient or something? That toy train that they install at that level crossing in the film was also a very cheap design.

That moment when Severine enters that recording room provides a strong connection with the subcutaneous beginning. Then a few more cool kills. But then the ending... Does Severine appear to have dreamed everything during the romantic trip to Paris with Tom?

An odd duck, indeed. But definitely worth it. Although the soundtracks were a real eyesore.

3.5*

Special video!

The relationship between Tom and Severine fades. Severine takes a break and Tom happens to meet a certain Chef (David Bunners) in a bar who offers him his help. What Tom doesn't know is that Chef belongs to a gang that makes snuff films. So Severine is lured to a castle in a forest. So it is a set up game by this gang. Due to coincidental circumstances, she arrives there earlier and discovers horrifying conditions. She manages to hide in the recording rooms under the bed of one of the victims. An exciting scene thanks to the camera work. All kinds of mysterious situations happen afterwards and ultimately the gang's set-up game also has a famous approach that I liked. The entire film is in black and white, which enhances the atmosphere. 6.5/10
